This page describes the information that is collected when you use the Salud! application, why it is collected, how it is safeguarded, and how it may be used.

Data collected about you and your privacy will be protected to the extent allowed by law. To make sure that this research complies with regulatory guidelines, the Georgia Institute of Technology Institutional Review Board may review study records. The Office of Human Research Protections and/or the Food and Drug Administration may also look over study records during required reviews. Overview

  • We collect personal information when you register for a Salud! account. This information is kept confidential and available only to the research staff.
  • The personal information you store in your Salud! account is not shared or reviewed by the research staff, except with your explicit permission.
  • When you access Salud!, our server automatically records information that your browser sends. Also, the server collects information about your interaction with the application (such as which features you used, or how frequently you used a particular feature). This information is used by the research staff only in anonymized, aggregate form.
  • If you have agreed to be a participant in a research study about Salud!, your name or any other fact that might point to you will not appear when results of the study are presented or published.

Information we collect and how we use it

You do not have to provide any personal information if you only wish to browse the public sections of this website and use the Salud! demo account. In order to use the full range of Salud! services, you must register for an account. We may collect the following information about you:

  • Personal information - When you register for a Salud! account, we ask you for your personal information, such as your name, address, and demographic information. The information you provide is stored securely on our server. Your personally identifiable will be kept confidential to the extent allowed by law.
  • User logs - When you access Salud!, our server automatically records information that your browser sends whenever you visit a website, such as the URL you accessed, your Internet Protocol address, browser type, browser language, and the date and time of your request. If you have a Salud! account, we also collect information about how you use Salud!&emdash;for example, how frequently you login to your account, and how frequently you use different features. This information is stored securely on our server and is sometimes reviewed by the research staff in aggregate, anonymized form in order to diagnose problems or provide you with new features.
  • Personal account content - If you have a Salud! account, you can store your personal information in it. This data is stored securely on our server, and, to the extent allowed by law, we will not review or share it without your explicit permission.
  • User communication - If you send us email or other communications, we may retain these in order to respond to your requests or improve the application.

If you are a participant in a research study about Salud!, we may use the information we collect about you for research activities. This may include analyzing personal information, user logs, and user communication, and other information which we have collected. However, we will never look at your personal account content without your explicit permission. Your name or any other fact that might point to you will not appear when results of this study are presented or published.

Reviewing, modifying or purging your information

You may request to review the information we have collected about you, and any of your information stored in our server's database. You are in control of your information, and may request that we modify or purge any information you do not wish us to have. You can also request to have your Salud! account closed and all information about you purged from our server.

If you are participating in a research study, you may end your participating at any time, and also request that we destroy any personal information we have collected about you.

Information security

Your personal information is stored on a server housed in the Technology Square Research Building on the Georgia Institute of Technology campus. Only the Salud! research staff have access to the data stored on this server.

All of the information sent between your browser and the Salud! server is encrypted. However, we cannot guarantee the security of your data if you use email or mobile messaging to interact with Salud!. Please check with your email or mobile service provider for their security and privacy policies.
